Margaret, Helpful Cleaning Tips While Staying Safe From COVID-19

Margaret,   While we all practice social distancing and do our part to flatten the curve, creating a regular practice of cleaning and disinfecting your home can help keep you and your family healthy and safe. The team here at My Care, My Choice wants to make sure you're aware of the Centers for Disease Control's (CDC) guidelines to cleaning and disinfecting your home. Practice routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces, such as tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, sinks, and other areas like the zipper on your jacket or coat. Clean the surface or item with soap and water or another detergent if it is dirty. Then, use a household disinfectant. (The Environmental Protection Agency has a handy list of recommended household disinfectants.) For carpeted floor, rugs, and drapes use soap and water or appropriate cleaners for use on these surfaces. If you can, launder the items and disinfect.   With electronics like tablets, touch screens, keyboards, and remote controls, consider putting a wipeable cover on them or follow the manufacturer's instruction for cleaning and disinfecting. If there is no guidance, use alcohol-based wipes or sprays containing at least 70% alcohol. Make sure to dry the surface thoroughly. When doing laundry, do not shake out dirty items and remember to wear disposable gloves. Please note, if you are washing the clothes of a sick family member or friend, dirty laundry from a sick person can be washed with other people's items. Wash your hands as soon as you remove your gloves, and clean and disinfect clothes hampers. As always, wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in public or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
