Margaret, As we all do our part to flatten the curve through social distancing, quarantining, and following stay at home orders where necessary, we can't forget about our emotional health. Whether it's stress, anxiety, or grief, these feelings can affect your well-being during the pandemic. If you or a loved one are feeling overwhelmed, remember The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a Disaster Distress Helpline: 1-800-985-5990, or text TalkWithUs to 66746. While we can't control everything, there are things we can control, and we want to share with you some ways to help stay positive during these challenging times: - Read positive news: It's hard to stay informed while also avoiding stress from what seems to be a never-ending news cycle. There are some sources, like Tank's Good News, Inspire More, Good News Network, and others that are elevating shining moments in the current news cycle.
- Clear the mind with meditation: Wind down and clear the mind through guided meditation. In light of the current crisis, many organizations and phone apps are offering meditation content to keep you focused and relaxed from the comfort and safety of your home.
- Relieve stress through exercise: Dance, jump around, practice yoga, or try something totally new. Movement and exercise can distract you and keep your body and your brain fit.
- Ask others how they're doing: It's important to recognize that everyone's situation is different, and they may be dealing with stress in a different way. When you give your friends, neighbors, and families a call, begin by checking in to see how they are. And remember, pay attention to the conversation — don't check email, text others, or scroll through Twitter. Try to give them your full attention.
- Find a furry friend: Many animal shelters are thrilled to see so many people are adopting pets. But remember, a pet is for a lifetime.
As we all try to remain safe and healthy physically during this pandemic, let's remember to take care of our emotional health as well. As always, stay healthy and safe, Team My Care, My Choice |
