Margaret,
During the COVID-19 crisis, it's important we get healthy and stay healthy. To that end, every American should be informed about the options available to them if they lose their health coverage during this time.
With more than 30 million newly unemployed Americans, we want to make sure everyone has access to the latest information and resources. Below are a few options to consider if you've recently lost your job and health coverage:
- Consider checking out your state health exchange or visit Healthcare.gov. Some states including California, the District of Columbia, and Maryland have reopened their health exchanges for those who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19. If your state hasn't done so, visit Healthcare.gov to learn more about options for you and your family.
- See if Medicaid is available for you. Visit your state's Medicaid website to see if you can enroll in Medicaid and for more information on how to apply.
- See if COBRA is right for you. Another option to consider is the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), which allows workers and their families who lose their health benefits the right to choose to continue those benefits provided by their employers for limited periods of time under certain circumstances such as involuntary job loss or reduction in the hours worked. For more information on how to enroll, contact your employer or click here.
As the nation works to overcome COVID-19, our economic recovery will include making sure every American can maintain health coverage.
Stay healthy and safe,
Team My Care, My Choice
